  • The evaluation itself generally takes up to 90 minutes not including required preliminary paperwork

  • Yes, all of my substance use evaluation are completed virtually or, in other words, via telehealth

  • How the Evaluation Process Works

    1) Consultation: Inform me of what led you to need an evail. I will answer any questions you may have We will confirm insurance options, self-pay fees, or court requirements.

    2)Clinical assessment: Virtual assessment with interview questions and standardized measures.

    3) Report: A written report with findings (from objective measurement scales) and treatment recommendations tailored to the referral source (court, probation officer, employer).

    4) Delivery and follow-up: Timely submission of the report and availability for follow-up clarification

    • Content of Substance Abuse Evaluations

      • Comprehensive clinical interview covering substance use history, medical/mental health history, social and legal context, and motivation for change.

      • Standardized screening and assessment tools including the Addiction Severity Index (ASI) to measure seriousness of a person’s substance use

      • Risk and safety assessment (including overdose risk and current use patterns).

      • Collateral information review when relevant (court documents, treatment records, employer reports).

      • Personalized treatment recommendations: outpatient therapy, intensive outpatient programs (IOP), medication-assisted treatment (MAT), medically supervised detox, residential treatment, harm reduction services, and community support groups.

      • Clear written report formatted to meet Massachusetts court, RMV, probation, and administrative requirements.

  • Following a Massachusetts RMV Immediate Threat suspension or revocation involving alcohol, illegal drugs, or prescription medications, the Registry of Motor Vehicles may require clinical documentation before considering license reinstatement. This can include a substance use evaluation with an assessment of risk for recidivism, along with documentation from a physician, psychiatrist, or other qualified clinician.

  • For legal cases, I can typically produce a substance use report within 48 hours, if needed.

  • Yes, virtual evaluations are valid for court and RMV purposes in Massachusetts. All of my substance abuse evaluations are conducted virtually

  • The initial cost may be covered partially or entirely by in network insurance. The cost for an evaluation depends on the purpose of the assessment; we will discuss this more during your free consultation.
